Sustainability start-up, Single.Earth, announced as the Mastercard Lighthouse FINITIV winner

Tallinn-based Single.Earth has taken the program by storm and selected as the winner of this fall´s Mastercard Lighthouse FINITIV program. FINITIV is an open innovation program that helps start-ups partner with Mastercard, Swedbank, SEB and OP Financial Group. Selected for its out of the box solution looking for fight the climate change and conserve environment, Single.Earth rose to the top of a 15 start-up list that the program’s corporate participants identified as possible partners at the start of the semester.

Single.Earth is launching a new nature-backed payment method that offers consumers a solution to cap the global emissions by rewarding landowners for nature preservation. The Estonia-headquartered startup, backed by EQT Ventures and Icebreaker.vc, introduces a payment method that caps carbon emissions through tokenization of the world’s nature. Single.Earth models the capacity of nature in terms of carbon and biodiversity. Using satellite imagery, big data analysis, and machine learning, it has built a digital twin of the planet Earth, describing how nature works.

“We need new types of solutions to fight climate crises. Single.Earth has devised an innovative way to incentivize landowners to conserve biodiversity. Now we only need solutions such as those provided by the Lighthouse companies to act as enablers for this development, and for banks and other corporates to partner and play their role in this journey. While their solution is rather ‘outside the box’, the team at Single.Earth has won both corporate and venture capital (VC) hearts. The Lighthouse team is very excited to see the amount of engagement that the company achieved through the FINITIV program and we look forward to continue supporting their growth. “, says Mats Taraldsson, Head of Innovation, Fintech and Impact-tech Engagement, Mastercard Nordics and Baltics.

While Single.Earth became the program’s overall winner, other start-ups also left the 16-week program with awards. EASI was named the most promising Swedish company in the class; Bleam took the same award for Finland.

“ Our team at Single.Earth worked tirelessly to make this happen. Mastercard Lighthouse program was a great opportunity to connect us with financial sector companies across the region,”
says Merit Valdsalu, CEO & Founder at Single.Earth
