How impressive MASSIV’s fall class achievements are…

Through the program’s accountability structure, we saw the impactful steps that MASSIV companies made during the fall program. With Kristina Kloberdanz, Mastercard’s Chief Sustainability Officer, and Mastercard Nairobi Labs joining the workshops together with valuable expert advisors, we are proud to see the outcome. Special thanks to our Advisory Board for making these outstanding results happening so far:

On a mission to create a better future with drones, GLOBHE helps people in rural areas obtain access to clean water which improves public health and serves as a lifesaving tool in areas where natural disasters can occur.

During their participation in the Lighthouse MASSIV program, they have formed a partnership with MASSIV’s partner Synch. At the start of the program, GLOBHE had just started crowdfunding, so Lighthouse’s advisors were helpful in providing partnerships, as well as guidance in legal agreements and contracts: the company ending up gaining more than 150 new shareholders. During the MASSIV program, GLOBHE also explored collaboration opportunities with Mastercard Nairobi Labs and their pay-on-demand service. In addition to GLOBHE’s improved impact measurement processes, they were also introduced to the Nature Conservancy and Google. GLOBHE is taking the company to the next level and Lighthouse MASSIV is looking forward to seeing their progress in the future.

PlasticFri entered the program with four main goals: to build partnerships that fulfill its vision, present to at least one foundation, strengthen their advisory board and expand its team. Impressively, they achieved all these goals.

PlasticFri made good use of Lighthouse MASSIV’s impressive network of investors, experts and advisors. They connected to MASSIV’s partner bank, Swedbank, and are exploring collaborations by starting off with a pilot. Opportunities are everywhere for PlasticFri: the introductions to Ellen McArthur Foundation, the American Chamber of Commerce in Sweden, MASSIV partner Synch, and Mastercard’s sustainable card program are all supporting in PlasticFri’s potential to scale its solution. Next to that, PlasticFri won several awards while they were a part of MASSIV, including “Startup of the year”,” Impact Maker of the Year” and won “Social Innovation Tournament”. Their most recent recognition is the Efficient Solution label they received from Solar Impulse Foundation, which certifies PlasticFri’s high standards in profitability and sustainability. Since climate change is such a pressing issue, with reduction of plastic playing a key role in global sustainability, the future is bright for this company and we are excited to see what they accomplish.

Green Assets Wallet provides solutions for investors that want to track the impact of their contributions and see how their investment makes a real change.

After MASSIV, Green Assets Wallet now has advisors in North America, Europe, Africa, Sweden. During the program, they gained key insights in the areas of bond market expansion and marketing: recently, they landed an article with Financial Times. Their team has focused on developing new technology and are currently producing new functionalities that will take Green Assets Wallet to a new level. During the program, the MASSIV advisors have been of great support in both developing the narrative around Green Assets Wallet’s solution, as well as attracting the right investors for the company. Next to that, Green Assets Wallet connected to green bond issuers and the World Bank. Seeing as the platform has been developed with the Paris climate agreement in mind and they are hoping to expand into the bond market, we believe Green Assets Wallet has a high impact potential

Pawa provides Solar power solutions for people living in rural areas, where the access to electricity is limited and expensive.

Pawa entered MASSIV with the goal of finding funding and developing their brand. Through MASSIV, they received insights on the importance of storytelling, which lead to a development in making customer stories a core part of their marketing. During MASSIV, Pawa signed a partnership with Longitude finance to create a virtual credit card. They also connected with Equity Bank Kenya, who was interested in their operations. BrilliantTV is now working with Pawa to create a “storytelling machine” – an impact TV channel that will tell stories of Pawa and other companies. During their time in MASSIV, they discovered how to bring new value to customers, realizing that stories themselves are what sells “Pawa”.

Molecular attraction aims to defeat malaria and other mosquito borne illnesses, with a longterm goal of saving 1 million people from malaria and other vector diseases by 2030. Their target demographic is toddlers, as they are often difficult to protect using conventional standards (i.e. mosquito netting).

They entered the MASSIV program with 3 main goals: funding, NGO, and tech partnerships. During their time in MASSIV, the company successfully proved their readiness for field trials and is in dialogue with various organizations for collaboration on this front. Molecular Attraction provides a solution that, if implemented globally, would not only be able to reduce the economic burden of malaria by 20%, but also save millions of toddlers’ lives potentially. This solution has gotten the attraction of Business Sweden and of many investors, such as EQT Foundation and Nordic Impact Funds. In part due to MASSIV, Molecular Attraction has already closed their bridge funding much earlier than expected. MASSIV sees an enormous potential in Molecular Attraction and is looking forward to seeing the impact of their technology globally.
