Six outstanding Nordic & Baltic impact tech companies join Mastercard’s Lighthouse MASSIV 2023 partnership program to scale globally.

Lighthouse MASSIV, Mastercard’s impact tech partnership program dedicated to helping one billion people live more prosperous and secure lives by 2025, is pleased to announce its spring class consisting of six sustainability- and social impact-focused startups from Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Estonia.

Unlike traditional accelerators, Mastercard Lighthouse MASSIV is free and focused primarily on helping impact tech companies achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals through partnership. By connecting Nordic and Baltic startups with high impact potential to large organizations, the program aims to help sustainable innovators achieve global distribution. Mastercard Lighthouse MASSIV remains a competitive program for startups. MASSIV’s 2023 spring class stands as the most region-wide and largest class in program history, prompting Mastercard to admit companies from Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Estonia.

Meet the spring class of Mastercard Lighthouse MASSIV:

4Life Solutions – The Danish startup brings safe and affordable drinking water to people in low-income communities. The SaWa can produce more than 5000 liters of safe drinking water using only the power of the sun. Today, more than 300.000 people use SaWa to get safe drinking water, and at the same time the solution creates less carbon emissions from boiling water, saves trees and helps women and girls across continents to learn and earn more.

“Water borne deceases is one of the biggest global problems affecting 2 billion people – killing more than 500.000 children every year. The SaWa brings safe and affordable drinking water to the people who need it the most. However, it is almost too good to be true that sunlight can create safe drinking water. Partnering with a big and reputable business such as Mastercard and their partners, could unlock the global potential of our unique technology.”
– Jonas Pilgaard, CEO at 4Life Solutions

No Isolation – The Norwegian start-up was founded to bring people together through warm technology and knowledge. The company has developed the AV1 telepresence robot, an avatar for children and young adults unable to attend school.

“We are working to ensure that all children get to live their lives, be with their friends and participate in school. Too many are currently being stopped by long-term health issues, and we believe technology can make it a lot easier to come back to the classroom. Working with Mastercard we hope to extend our reach and find new partners to further scale the AV1 robot.”– Karen Dolva, Co-founder & CEO

Glint Solar – The Norwegian startup is providing solar energy developers a software to identify and analyze good potential solar energy sites. Our user-friendly SaaS solution allows for map-based filtering enabling the user to quickly find sites which meet their criteria.

“Our mission at Glint Solar is to accelerate the installations of solar energy around the world. We’re thrilled to join Mastercard’s program that fast-tracks the transition to a green economy, and to collaborate with like-minded organizations for a more sustainable world. By leveraging our software, Glint Ground, we simplify the process of solar site selection and analysis, ultimately making renewable energy more accessible.” Harald Olderheim, Founder & CEO at Glint Solar

TrusTrace – The Swedish startup provides a digital platform for product traceability & supply chain compliance. The company operates at scale in the fashion industry with 50+ apparel and footwear brands, and traces USD 2.5 Bn worth of goods per month. TrusTrace provides brands the visibility into supply chain data across all tiers, including raw material content, factory details, and supplier conduct reports, to meet regulatory compliance and operate responsible supply chains.

The fashion industry is under tremendous pressure from regulators and consumers to increase the percentage of sustainable and circular products rapidly. Financial institutions are key partners of fashion brands in this transition. TrusTrace is proud to be part of Mastercard’s Lighthouse MASSIV program – an excellent platform for us to develop a practical approach and solution towards the implementation of sustainable and circular product initiatives.” – Shameek Ghosh, Co-Founder & CEO at TrusTrace

eAgronom – The Estonian startup is the leading ag-tech company bringing financial benefits to sustainable farmers. With a focus on becoming the largest certified soil-based carbon credit developer in Europe and Africa, eAgronom is committed to creating a profitable future for farmers and a more sustainable farming industry.

“At eAgronom, we are dedicated to driving positive change, and therefore we are very happy to be part of the Mastercard Lighthouse MASSIV program. We believe that this program will allow us to strive further in our mission to promote sustainable agriculture while helping farmers to achieve better financial benefits and reducing carbon footprint. I believe that together we can make a significant impact!” – Robin Saluoks, CEO at eAgronom

Klimato – The Swedish company is helping food companies to track and reduce CO2 emissions with the help of our plug-and-play software.

“Today’s food industry accounts for a third of global greenhouse gas emissions. Accurate measurement and reporting will soon be a mandatory requirement for EU businesses. The banking industry is leading the way for ESG reporting and the remaining industries are soon to follow suit. We’re thrilled to take part in this program, getting the opportunity to work with like-minded startups and banks on the greatest challenge of our generation – limiting global warming to less than 2° celsius.” – Anton Unger, Co-Founder & CEO at Klimato

The companies joining the program have been chosen because of their desire and ability to scale sustainable partnerships. Mastercard hopes to enhance these collaborations to achieve the vision of making the world a more prosperous and secure place.

“Over the years, Mastercard Lighthouse MASSIV has featured companies like Desert Control, whose agritech nanoclay technology turns deserts into fertile land; Molecular Attraction, combatting vector-borne diseases like malaria, and SPENN, a company allowing people in developing countries to lend, spend and save money cost-free. It is truly empowering to support companies like these, with cutting-edge technologies dedicated to create a better world.”

“At a time where it is more important than ever for the global community to mobilize for accelerated action towards the Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals, it’s inspiring to see more and more impact scaleups come to fruition. This progress is coupled with a growing recognition of the importance of impact measurement and management in the private sector. By managing impact, businesses can boost their investment prospects and gain a competitive advantage in attracting and retaining top talent. Furthermore, a significant transformation is underway, where companies are accepting complete responsibility for their impact on the environment. It’s imperative to rally behind these companies, provide support, and celebrate their efforts, inspiring others to join the green and just movement. At UNDP, we’re pleased to once more be able to provide our support.”
